Etched Electrodes

An electrode is an electrical conductor that is used to make contact with a nonmetallic component of a circuit. They are the parts in a system through which an electrical current is transferred. Electrodes are classified as either a cathode or an anode depending on if the current is flowing into or out of an electrode. Generally, conventional currents flow into a device through its anode and leaves the device through the cathode. Each electrode may become either the anode or the cathode depending on the direction of current through the cell.

E-Fab has been manufacturing electrodes for our customers for almost 40 years. The precision etched electrodes are produced for medical devices, electrochemical cells, semiconductors, electronics, and other industries. We can chemically etch these electrical components which vary by charge and applications, including EDM and furnace electrodes, electrical contacts, and emitters and filaments.

Why Choose E-Fab for Your Etched Electrodes?

E-Fab is your choice for superior performance parameters of etched electrodes. Our photochemical machining (PCM) process allows us to develop and produce high-quality electrodes according to your desired criteria and application. We consider the substrate material, form (shape of an electrical material), size (thickness, width, and length), choice of cell chemistry, and coating material when developing and producing your electrode. Also, we can adapt our fabrication processes and product specifications to the specific application of your components. For example, we can flexibly adjust the surface capacities, weights, and coating thickness of the electrode during production.

Our advanced electrode metal etching processes can maintain dimensional tolerances without creating burrs or sharp edges and can work with many commercially available metals or alloys of any hardness with various thicknesses. The material substrate is also another important consideration when designing and producing your electrodes. Some important properties of electrode materials include conductivity, corrosion resistance, and hardness.  We can chemically etch your electrodes from a wide variety of materials, including:

  • Nitinol (nickel-titanium) Thickness up to 0.001” – 0.020”
  • Cooper Thickness 0.001” – 0.060”
  • Titanium Thickness up to 0.001” – 0.020”
  • Brass Thickness 0.001” – 0.060”
  • Stainless Steel Thickness 0.001” – 0.040”

Customers can also supply their own material if that is preferred. If a customer is not sure what material to use,

E-Fab can offer suggestions based on the design and application of your electrode.
